Jakarta is a financial hub in Indonesia, 12th leg of the Jules Verne, world hydrogen ZEWT challenge

Jakarta, officially the Special Capital Region of Jakarta, is the capital and largest city of Indonesia. It is located on the northwest coast of the world's most populous island, Java. it is the centre of economics, culture and politics of Indonesia.

Jakarta's main seaport, Tanjung Priok, offers ferry connections. Tanjung Priok is Indonesia's busiest port, and the 21st busiest port in the world in 2013, handling over 6.59 million TEUs. To boost port capacity, the two-phase "New Tanjung Priok" extension project was undertaken. When fully operational in 2023, it will triple existing capacity. Muara Angke port is used as a public port, while Ancol marina port is used as a tourist port to connect Thousand Islands.

Most of the visitors attracted to Jakarta are domestic tourists. As the gateway of Indonesia, Jakarta often serves as a stop-over for foreign visitors on their way to other Indonesian tourist destinations such as Bali and Lombok.

Tanjung Priok has 20 terminals: general cargo, multipurpose, scrap, passenger, dry bulk, liquid bulk, oil, chemicals and three container terminals, 76 berths, a quay length of 16,853 metres, a total storage area of 661,822 m2 and a storage capacity of 401,468 tonnes.

On 6 June 2007, the city administration introduced the Waterway (officially Angkutan Sungai), a river boat service along the Ciliwung River. Due to varying water levels and plastic garbage that comes with water from upstream during rains, this service was discontinued.

Jakarta is not hydrogen ready as we write, hence clean fleet operators will have to seek alternative handling facilities to comply with the IMO's 2040 target.

Jakarta to Sri Lanka, Jules Verne, world hydrogen challenge

12TH LEG - At a speed of 13 knots the twelfth leg of the hydrogen powered zero carbon voyage would take just over six days to complete, free of emissions. The demonstration of ZEWT technology in action, could help speed up the transition to non polluting waterborne transport. These projections are only a guide. Many of the ports of call could be bypassed completely to give us a shorter passage.
